Andre CoteI never thought that the day would come, but I am finally ready to purchase my first automobile. My parents made me wait until I was 18, which was probably smart on their part although I did not necessarily agree with it at the time. What it did do, however, is give me the opportunity to save up a little bit of additional money so that I can really get the car that I want. I’m trying to narrow down my choices, here are some things that I am considering.

I have to admit, the temptation to purchase a brand-new automobile is quite strong. Financing would not be too much of a problem, as I have a fairly good job and I don’t have any negative credit history that will hurt me. I think that the main problem is going to be the fact that I don’t have much of a credit history at all, although I’m sure that some finance company is going to willing to work with me. I just want to make sure that if I do go this route that I get an interest rate that will help me to make the payments affordable.

Another thing that I’ve considered is going the exact opposite direction and purchasing an automobile that is older. There has always been something about a muscle car that has excited me, and I have several in mind that I would love to get my hands on. At the top of the list is a Dodge charger, but really any car from the 60s or 70s that would be classified as a muscle car would do. The only reason why I wouldn’t go this route is because of the price of gasoline, which has made it a little less practical to use one of these cars on a regular basis. Of course, you can still get some fairly decent mileage if you drive it practically but where’s the fun in that?

More than likely, I’m going to end up with a car that is what could be considered a smart choice. It is going to be fairly reliable, not too flashy and reasonable on gas mileage. Although I may dream about a brand-new automobile or purchasing one that will get me from 0 to 60 in some fantastically short amount of time, a practical car is probably going to be the best choice for me. Not only that, I should be able to afford it with the money I have saved so I will not be getting into any additional payments, which is also a practical thing.

It’s times like these whenever I wished that somebody would be able to make that decision for me, but it is something that I need to decide for myself. One thing is for certain, I waited several years after getting my license until I was able to finally purchase an automobile so it is not going to be a decision that I rush into and later regret.
